  • the period between daylight and darkness

Life has an eternal presence of twilight. Never light, nor dark. Happy. Sad. A sense of being between two extremes. Always in the middle.

Everyday, as the sun sets just over the horizon, the clashing of the night taking over and the day holding on to its place in the sky provides us with a beautiful display of its own natural art form. Vibrant hues of all degrees of the color spectrum strewn across the horizon. Textures of clouds and landscaping silhouettes capture the light from the dying sun, amplifying it to its fullest potential. Never the same hues. Never the same clouds. Never the same landscape. Twilight is never the same.

But, you can depend that it will come. Every single day, there will be a period of twilight. You cannot foresee how it will show itself until it arrives, but you know that it’s coming. The repetitiveness is comforting. Dependable. The sun must set, and the night must come. Predictably, twilight will make an appearance while the two go on with their daily ritual.

Relationships are like twilight. Beautiful. Comforting. Sometimes it’s a battle of two strong forces trying to hold its own stubborn place in the sky. Other times it’s a dance of lovers comforting and protecting one another during inevitable change. Yet the happiness of twilight is controlled by outside conductors: Friendly Day and Secretive Night.

Twilight is an end, while it is also a beginning. It says goodbye to the beautiful, warm days and welcomes the stars to twinkle above us. Twilight is an essential transition for day and night to coexist. Without twilight, we could never appreciate changes.

Twilight is the gray areas in life. The unexplained middle ground that lands us into confusion. The undefined. The compromise. You can love and hate it at the same time. You can wish to banish it forever for creating confusion while it is present and miss its beauty and comfort as soon as it is gone.

Twilight is who I love. Twilight is how I love. Twilight is my confusion, my comfort, and my anguish. Twilight is my indecision. Twilight is how I live.

I love twilight. It is undoubtedly my favorite time of day.

But sometimes, I just wish the stars would come out already…
