I’ve been living inside a fragile bubble—one built from anxiety, false hope, and expectations that were never rooted in reality. Inside it, I’ve been drowning in emotions I didn’t have to carry. Exhausted by things I could have walked away from all along.
I kept choosing people who didn’t choose me.
I gave love to those who didn’t value it.
I held onto friendships and relationships that only took from me.
I tried to stay close to an ex, let people cross my boundaries, let them take pieces of me I should have protected.
All because I convinced myself of a beautiful lie—that if I made everyone else happy, somehow my own happiness would find me in the process.
But it doesn’t work like that. It never did.
If I had poured even half of that energy into myself, I would have been free by now. Truly free. I would know how to be alone without feeling empty. I would know how to say no without guilt. I would stand firm in who I am instead of shrinking to fit what others needed me to be. I would understand that life doesn’t follow the script I’ve been clinging to in my head—and that’s okay.
The truth is, when pain hits, it blinds you. It piles on until it feels like that’s all there is. Years ago, four strangers nearly took my life, and even now, that night still echoes through me. It carved out space in my mind and refused to leave. For a long time, it made everything feel heavy, dark, and unfair.
But that’s not the whole story.
Because in the middle of all that darkness, there has been light—real, undeniable light.
In less than three months, I will graduate with my M.Ed and step into the career I’ve dreamed of. I’ve shared a home with two of the most incredible women I’ve ever known. I’ve met people who are genuine, kind, and full of life—and I’ve reconnected with the ones who’ve always mattered. I’ve made the decision to leave Tennessee for the first time in my life and step into something unknown, something bigger.
I fought for this version of myself. I fought for my peace, my sanity, my happiness—and for the first time, I can say I’ve actually found it. Not perfectly, not completely, but honestly. And I’m still growing into it every single day.
So today, I begin again.
Not as someone who has it all figured out, but as someone who finally understands their worth. I’m still learning how to stop people-pleasing—but I am done pouring myself into people who give me nothing in return.
I am done abandoning myself to keep others comfortable.
I am done mistaking struggle for love.
I am done waiting for happiness to arrive instead of choosing it.
I will not invest in people who cannot invest in me.
This is where I take my energy back.
This is where I choose myself.
