I woke up wanting you
before I was even fully awake—
like my body hadn’t been told
we don’t do that anymore.
I almost asked about your day.
Almost typed it.
Almost folded.
Because caring about you
never felt like a question to me.
It felt like instinct.
And that’s the part I’m learning to sit with—
that I can care,
and still not reach.
That I can wonder how you are
and still let you be.
Because love shouldn’t feel
like I’m the only one that wants it.
So I stayed still.
Not because I didn’t want to check on you—
but because I finally checked on myself first.
And for once…
that had to be enough.
