You took my breath away—
not because I was empty,
but because I had finally learned
how to feel again.
I thought I had been waiting for you.
Thought all the broken pieces of me
had been leading here—
to this moment,
to you.
For so long,
I carried my heart in fragments,
leaving pieces of it behind
in places that never held me.
I used to wonder
why I had to break so much
just to understand love.
And then I met you—
and for a moment,
everything made sense.
But not in the way I thought.
You weren’t the piece
that made me whole.
You were the mirror
that showed me
I already was.
All the love I gave,
all the pieces I lost—
they weren’t gone.
They were shaping me,
softening me,
preparing me
to finally return to myself.
So no—
I wasn’t giving anything up.
I was becoming.
And every step,
every loss,
every almost—
it was worth it.
Because it led me here.
Not to you—
but to me.
